Dana Ward from Hello NBA fans from our Rockstar studio this is Dana Ward here with our NBA Quick Hitter for the sports betting public.
Now lets take a look at the news from around the league as players report for training camp on Tuesday September 30th.
Phoenix Suns center Shaquille ONeal told Orlando News 13 television station that he will retire at the end of the 2009-2010 season. The 7 foot 1 center has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons missing 86 regular season games over the past 3 seasons. Shaq was traded last season from the Miami Heat to the Phoenix Suns. While splitting time last season with the Heat and the Suns the talented center saw his defensive rebounds per game increase after the trade. ONeal was averaging 4.8 defensive rebounds per game while with Miami and 8.2 with the Suns last season.
There was a major trade during the summer. You might have missed it as you were glued to your TV set during Team USA Basketballs march for Olympic Gold in Beijing. The Houston Rockets added an impact player to the roster over the summer by trading for Ron Artest. The talented forward averaged over 20 points per game a year ago with the Sacramento Kings. Artest gives Houston a physical force on defense to compliment center Yao Ming. NBA experts believe it will be very difficult to score around the basket with Yao Ming and Ron Artest down low. The Rockets added a starter to their lineup without giving up a starter. The Rockets sent reserve Bobby Jackson, rookie Donte Green and a 2009 first round pick over to Sacramento. The Houston Rockets now look to be a threat from the Western Conference to knock off Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers.
Now we move East
Detroit Pistons first year coach Michael Curry is stressing strength and conditioning as training camp approaches. Curry told reporters that he wants Detroit Pistons power forward Rasheed Wallace to report to training camp in better shape and maintain his conditioning throughout the NBA season. The Piston coach wants to feed Wallace the ball more this season in the low post.
That will do it for todays NBA report. This is Dana Ward reminding you to check out GamblersTelevision.com this NBA season as Tony T delivers his picks throughout the season.
